"Summer Frames"

My paternal grandparents’ house was in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, and I used to visit them every single year during my childhood summer vacations.

I still vividly remember the clouds billowing against Mount Rokko and the blue sky, the chorus of cicadas, and Koshien Stadium standing just a short distance away. Around that time, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan had just opened, and I remember standing in a long queue under the blazing sun to catch a glimpse of the whale sharks.

There
are countless mischievous memories, like getting completely absorbed in playing by the nearby Muko River and rushing back home covered in mud. For me, this entire Osaka and Kobe area is deeply intertwined with the vivid image of summer.

Just
as the various moments of midsummer remain colorfully alive in one's heart forever, there is an eternal, irreplaceable expansiveness hidden within the most ordinary scenes of daily life. Perhaps this city where my grandparents lived had been quietly teaching me, since those early childhood days, about the hidden multiplicities and depths of the world.

For
this exhibition held in this Hanshin region—which I consider one of my most indispensable, foundational landscapes—I have chosen the title "Summer Frames," overlaying it with various memories and scenes of summer.

Aiming for that fresh and vivid sensation born from the fragments of summer, which expand far beyond all frameworks and logic.
