Straw Paintings
M-Gallery (Ashikaga, September 2017)
In Japanese folklore, the Straw Millionaire is a tale about a man who gains wealth through successive bartering. Taking inspiration from this process of adding value to valueless objects, in this exhibition I experimented with revising my old pieces and assigning new value to them. I directed this sense of renewal not only towards my own work, but also towards the greater Japanese art scene as well.
