GRAY ZONE
SWEET EMOTION（2010年5月・東京）
| 私たちはよく白黒はっきりつけたがる。白は正しくて、黒は悪いというように、なんでも明確に分け隔てて物事を考える。互いを否定しあう限り白と黒のイタチゴッコはいつまでも続く。白黒のはっきりつかない部分のことをグレーゾーンという。
どっちつかずの状態、どこにも属さないこと。 法的に合法か、違法かが不明瞭な場合に使われるが、私は相反する二つの世界を結ぶ具体性や線引きの無いもう一つの世界のことと定義したいと思う。目先にある問題に意識をとらわれるではなく、問題の中身のことを考えること。それは絵画が地と図の関係性の中で、尽きることの無い葛藤を伴い成立するように、裏も表も、昼も夜も、吉も凶も、喜びも悲しみも、生も死も全ては一対であるから成立する。一方にとらわれるだけでは見えないものがある。 今日の日本が西洋と東洋の板挟みとなってしまっているように、混在する様々なしがらみの中で私たちは生きなければならないとき、この曖昧に色彩が入り混じった灰色の領域の中にしか見えないものがあるのではないだろうか。 |

西麻布のレストラン・SWEET EMOTIONで開催した展示です。ギャラリーとは異なるスペースとの出会いから、世界を白黒に二分するのではなく、むしろ狭間の中にこそ見えるものがあるのでないか、いうインスピレーションを得ました。今日の日本が、洋の東西双方の影響によって成り立つように、混在する様々なしがらみを、むしろ幅広い視野を持つためのきっかけにしたいという自分自身の気持ちも展示に込めました。
