Out of the Blue

ANA InterContinental Tokyo, Art Platform Tokyo (Tokyo, May 2021)

I grew up by the Ocean. I may be portraying the seascape that remains in my mind the image of the heaving sea. Perhaps due to my ADHD, or difficult upbringing, I always felt my mind was unstable with constant conflict between self-affirmation and self-denail. I translate those emotions into colors and brushstrokes to create my painting. In most of the work for this show there's a sense of continuity that transcends the canvas frames. Life is built upon one's past and future, repetition of self-denails and self-affirmations. I think painting or art is about discovering oneself. It's essential for an artist to question who you are. In that sense, the title "Out of the Blue" implies something unexpected until now, something that was hidden now brought to light. I hope the show will bring some new discovery to the audience.
